Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma State Texas Bowl odds outlook
Texas A&M had a high standard to meet this season but failed to perform up to snuff, posting a 7-5 record that resulted in the firing of head coach Jimbo Fisher. With Fisher gone, much of the Aggies’ coaching staff have left for new opportunities.
The Aggies have also been hit hard by the transfer portal, with numerous starters on both sides of the ball opting out of the Texas Bowl. The notable players not suiting up include Max Johnson, Ainias Smith (declared for the NFL Draft), Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, and Jake Johnson.
In Stillwater, the number of opt-outs is minimal. There was speculation that Ollie Gordon, who had the second-most rushing yards and touchdowns in FBS, would leave for a new team, but he will return to Oklahoma State in 2024. Alan Bowman has no eligibility left after this season, meaning he’ll be a go for the Texas Bowl.
Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma State best bets: Oklahoma State -1 (-110 or better)
While Texas A&M is scrambling to formulate a game plan with many coaches and players having left College Station, Oklahoma State has experienced minimal departures. The Aggies were pass-heavy, but its quarterback and four of the top six pass-catchers are out the door.
Oklahoma State had the worst passing defense in the Big 12 this year, but Texas A&M is in no position to exploit the weakness. With Johnson in the portal and former QB1 Conner Weigman lost to a season-ending injury, the Aggies are down to third-stringer Jaylen Henderson.
As an added bonus for Cowboys’ backers, head coach Mike Gundy is 11-6 ATS in bowl games since 2005.
Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma State best bets: Ollie Gordon first touchdown scorer (+400 or better)
The Aggies had the 18th-best rushing defense in college football, though that trend is doomed to end with the number of players and coaches missing the Texas Bowl. Texas A&M’s motivation is questionable, while Oklahoma State should be fired up to take down an SEC foe.
Gordon had a memorable campaign, rushing for 1,614 yards and scoring 21 total touchdowns. Ollie scored 49% of the Cowboys touchdowns and is Gundy’s go-to guy in the red zone.
