Texas A&M holds off Vanderbilt, to play Alabama in SEC tournament finals

Eight days after ending its regular season with a loss at Texas A&M, Alabama will find itself in a rematch on Sunday. This time for the Southeastern Conference tournament championship.

It’ll be the two-seed Aggies and one-seed Crimson Tide against each other after both sides won their semifinal matchup in the SEC tournament on Saturday. Alabama overcame shooting struggles to beat four-seed Missouri, 72-61, while A&M held off six-seed Vanderbilt, 87-75.

“Nah,” Tide freshman Brandon Miller said when asked if he had a preference about which team the Tide could face. “… I feel like they’re a good team. They beat us with great energy. Of course, they have great players like (Wade Taylor IV).”

Taylor scored 25 points against the Commodores, playing 31 minutes and dishing four assists. Taylor led all scorers with 28 points on March 4 when the Aggies beat Alabama, 67-61, in Reed Arena. The Tide shot 33.8% from the field in that game and committed 18 turnovers. Alabama head coach Nate Oats said the team didn’t watch back the tape from that game, opting instead to focus on the SEC tournament.

To get to Saturday, A&M beat Arkansas in the quarterfinal round by six points. The Tide rolled Mississippi State earlier in the day.
