Tesla plows through Mountain Brook home on New Year’s Day as family sleeps inside

A Tesla plowed into a Mountain Brook home in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, leaving catastrophic damage but surprisingly no injuries.

The wreck happened at 2:25 a.m. Monday in the 700 block of Euclid Avenue, which is in the Crestline community.

The vehicle left the roadway and slammed in the house, entering on the driveway side of the home and coming to a rest after crashing through an adjacent wall near the back deck.

The driver of the vehicle was trapped inside the wreckage, said Mountain Brook Police Chief Jaye Loggins said. He was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed appeared to be a factor. No charges have been filed at this point.

A family was inside the home at the time, but fortunately their bedrooms were on the opposite side of the house.

“It could have been disastrous,’’ Loggins said.

The investigation is ongoing.
