Terry Bowden out as head coach at Louisiana-Monroe
Terry Bowden won’t return next season as head football coach at Louisiana-Monroe, the school announced Sunday.
The 67-year-old Bowden went 10-26 in three seasons with the Warhawks. ULM went 4-8 in each of Bowden’s first two seasons, but slipped to 2-10 in 2023, including 0-8 in the Sun Belt Conference and 10 straight losses to end the year.
“After a thorough review, we have decided to make a change in the leadership of ULM football,” ULM athletics director John Hartwell said. “I want to thank Coach Terry Bowden for all he has done over the last three years for our football program and our university.”
Bowden has 185 wins in several coaching stops over the last 41 years, including six seasons each at Samford (1987-92) and Auburn (1993-98). He reached the NCAA Division I-AA (now FCS) playoffs twice with the Bulldogs, while his Tigers went 11-0 in his debut season of 1993 and won the SEC West title in 1997.
Bowden also coached at Salem (Va.), North Alabama and Akron before coming to ULM. He UNA teams went a combined 29-9 from 2009-11 and reached the NCAA Division II playoffs in each of his three seasons.
Other FBS job openings include Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Oregon State, Indiana, Houston, Syracuse, UTEP, Boise State, San Diego State and New Mexico. Michigan State and Northwestern have already filled their openings.
