Tens of thousands without power in Alabama after tornadoes, severe storms
Tens of thousands of Alabamians were without power as of late Thursday afternoon following severe storms, including tornadoes that dealt serious damage, in the central part of the state.
Alabama Power reported nearly 40,000 customers without electricity as of 4:32 p.m. Thursday, according to the utility’s outage map.
Most of those outages were concentrated around Selma, Montgomery and Tallapoosa County.
Smaller utilities also reported outages.
The Central Alabama Electric Cooperative reported more than 5,000 outages in its coverage area, including Autauga, Elmore and Coosa counties.
