An elderly Tennessee man was killed Friday night in a single-vehicle crash in Homewood.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victim Monday as Henry Laverne Swanger. He was 91 and lived in Chattanooga.

The crash happened at 10:17 p.m. on South Lakeshore Drive at Murray Hill Drive.

Authorities say Swanger was the driver and lone occupant of a Dodge Intrepid sedan. For unknown reasons, his vehicle left the road at an intersection and struck a tree.

Swanger was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:01 p.m.

Homewood police are investigating.
