Tennessee legal battle leads to man trying to hit another with truck in Alabama parking lot, pulling gun, police say

Florence police say a Tennessee man struck another man in a parking lot with his vehicle, and brandished a revolver at him, in connection with an ongoing legal case.

Sgt. Ryan Kelly said the incident happened Wednesday at about 7 p.m. in the 3100 block of Hough Road.

Witnesses told police a 2016 GMC Sierra was seen slowly circling a parking lot for some time. Then the vehicle “aggressively accelerated and swerved at the victim,” a 68-year-old from Rogersville.

Witnesses said after striking the victim and knocking him to the ground, the driver exited the truck, brandishing a revolver. The victim retreated into a nearby store for safety, and the driver left the area.

Kelly said officers were later called to a local hospital about 7:30 p.m., after staff found a firearm in the clothing of a patient who had just checked in. When officers arrived, the gun was secured, and it was discovered the patient was the driver in the case involving the pedestrian victim.

The victim was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Larry Franklin Palmer, 73, of Iron City, was charged with attempted murder and tampering with a witness.

Investigators say Palmer and the victim were involved in an ongoing legal case in Tennessee.

Palmer is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on a $60,300 bond.
