Temperatures across Alabama today range from 20s to 60s
Alabama was a tale of crazy temperature differences on Monday afternoon.
According to data from the National Weather Service it was 23 degrees with freezing rain and sleet in Huntsville as of 2 p.m.
Across the state, in Mobile, it was a balmy 67 degrees with no snow in slight.
The battle zone between warmer air to the south and an arctic airmass over north Alabama was in the central part of the state.
The temperature difference was still stark:
It was 54 degrees and sunny in Pell City in St. Clair County along Interstate 20 as of 2 p.m., but just 140 miles to the northwest it was 23 degrees and snowing in Haleyville.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham highlighted those differences as well on Monday afternoon:
Forecasters said the arctic air will continue to push southward today, and by tonight much of the state will be feeling the chill.
Here are tonight’s forecast low temperatures:
The possibility of freezing precipitation will also nose its way into more of central and possibly even southwest Alabama through Tuesday morning, and winter weather advisories will be in effect for those areas.
The weather service thinks that any precipitation that falls in central and southwest Alabama could come in the form of light amounts of ice, and slick spots will be possible on roads, especially elevated surfaces.
