Teen with gun at Hueytown, Ramsay football game chased, detained by police as players drop to field
A teen boy authorities say had a gun at the Hueytown Hight School vs. Ramsay High School football game was taken into custody Friday night.
The game was being played in Hueytown.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief David Agee said school resource officers assigned to the game saw a disturbance in the Hueytown stands and went to intervene.
A 16-year-old boy with a handgun tried to flee but was stopped by school staff and deputies.
Agee said the weapon was recovered and the teen was taken to juvenile detention.
There were no reports of shots fired or any injuries.
The ordeal delayed the game briefly as players dropped to the field. Multiple social media posts described the incident as chaotic and scary.
Agee said he could not confirm if the teen is a student.
Ramsay defeated Hueytown 28-14.
