Teen killed in exchange of gunfire with juvenile, Mobile County sheriff says

The individual killed in a shooting in Mobile County over the weekend has been identified.

Jaylon Rivers, 19, died as a result of an argument that turned deadly, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

MCSO responded to a shooting at Tom Hopkins Road in Mount Vernon at about 1:51 a.m. on May 11.

Officers found Rivers and a minor both suffering gunshot wounds.

“According to MCSO Detectives, witnesses at the scene reported that the juvenile and Jaylon Rivers engaged in an argument,” the agency said.

“During the altercation, Rivers allegedly fired multiple shots at the juvenile, who then returned fire, striking Rivers.”

According to the sheriff’s office, Rivers died from his injuries after being taken to a separate residence by a family member.

The minor was taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.

The incident is still being investigated by the agency.
