Teen father killed at Alabama graduation party brought loved ones ‘joy and love,’ family says

A south Alabama man killed after a high school graduation party is being remembered by family for his personality and caring nature.

Jaylon Rivers, 19, died May 11 after being shot during an argument following a graduation party in Mount Vernon.

Another individual Zachary Morgan, 18, was injured as a result of the shooting. A juvenile was arrested in connection to the shooting and charged with felony murder and assault.

An obituary for Rivers states that he was a “loving father” and cared for others.

“Jaylon’s life was marked by his caring nature and dedication to looking out for others,” the obituary said. “His vibrant personality and enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.“

Additionally, Rivers got “immense joy” from making music and participating in football. He is survived by numerous family members including his daughter, mother, father, siblings, grandparents and more.

“Jaylon’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he leaves behind, reminding us all of the joy and love he brought into our lives,” the obituary said.
