Teen charged with murder in fatal Bay Minette shooting on New Year’s Day
An 18-year-old man is being held without bond in the Baldwin County jail in connection with the fatal shooting of another man in Bay Minette on New Year’s Day.
Armani Jy’Aquarious Hooks, 18, was charged with murder in the Jan. 1 slaying of Ja’Tavious Damailo French, Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert announced Tuesday.
Hooks’ bond hearing has yet to be scheduled.
The 18-year-old suspect’s arrest comes after Kendrick Johnson, 18, was arrested in French’s killing.
Police said that French was allegedly shot by Johnson after the two got into a physical altercation on Jan. 1 in the 1200 Block of Pecan Street.
French died after suffering a single gunshot wound.
Hooks is an associate of Johnson, according tot police.
BMPD also said that prior to the Jan. 1 shooting the three were allegedly involved in a physical altercation at a party on Dec. 31.
The incident is still being investigated and more arrests are expected to come according to the department.
French’s slaying remains an ongoing investigation, Tolbert said, and further information remained unavailable.
