TCU’s leading rusher signs with Jacksonville State out of transfer portal

Jacksonville State’s running back room added some Big 12 experience on Monday.

Former Texas Christian running back Cam Cook has signed with Jax State out of the NCAA transfer portal, the program announced on Monday.

He announced that he entered the NCAA transfer portal on Dec. 17 after his sophomore season and was graded a 3-star recruit out of the portal, according to On3.

Cook played in 12 games for the Horned Frogs this season and started six, running for a team-high 491 yards and nine touchdowns on 119 carries; he also caught the ball 18 times for 75 yards.

The native of Round Rock, Texas, ran for a career-high three touchdowns against Long Island in TCU’s second game of the season.

He played in nine games as a freshman before being sidelined with an injury, ranking fifth on the team with 16 carries for 58 yards.

Cook was graded as a 4-star recruit out of Stony Point High School in Texas, graded as the No. 19 running back prospect in the class of 2023. He ran for 1,589 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior and picked TCU over offers from Texas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oregon and Southern California.

He is the first running back signed by first-year Jax State coach Charles Kelly and his staff.
