Targeted killing of man in van parked on Birmingham street unsolved 1 year later; police seek help
Today marks one year since someone opened fire on a parked van on a Birmingham street, killing a 37-year-old man and wounding a woman.
No arrests have been made, and detectives again are asking anyone with information in the killing Michael Lazaria Arrington to come forward.
“To this day, his killer remains on the loose and we need your help,’’ said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
It was about 3 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2022, when someone unleased about 40 rounds on the van that was parked outside of a house in the 100 block of 40th Street in Ensley.
Arrington’s female passenger called 911 screaming that she and someone else had been shot. She was rushed to UAB Hospital with serious injuries but survived.
Investigators believe both victims were targeted, and police at the time said the shell casings recovered were from different types of weapons.
Fitzgerald said a motive has not been uncovered.
Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
