T.R. Miller rallies past Bayside Academy
T.R. Miller closed strong at Freedom Field in Daphne on Friday night, earning a 31-17 road victory thanks to forcing two turnovers in the final two minutes.
The Tigers trailed 17-13 with about a minute and a half to go, but tallied three touchdowns and forced two turnovers to pull off a 31-17 Class 4A, Region 1 victory over Bayside Academy.
T.R. Miller took the lead when Nathan Commander found Elijah Hubbert for a 20-yard reception to take a 19-13 with 1:32 remaining.
Bayside replied with a promising drive and Sammy Dunn completed a pass to Damien Tate, who them fumbled. T.R. Miller’s Kavarius Bell scooped it and ran 52 yards for a touchdown to make it 25-13.
Bayside then again began driving, but Christopher Williams picked off Dunn and returned it for a touchdown with five seconds remaining.
“We didn’t answer on offense, but the defense on the scoop, the interception, great job,” T.R. Miller coach Brent Hubbert said. “I’m proud of the defense. It was the offense in the first half, but we were able to keep (Bayside) off the field.”
T.R. Miller (4-2 overall, 3-1 in Class 4A, Region 1) led 13-10 at halftime as Nathan Commander threw the first of his three touchdown passes, 58 yards to Marshall Lovelace to take a 7-0 lead.
The Admirals responded to make it 7-3 as Thomas Cunningham hit a 35-yard field goal.
After Commander threw a 11-yard touchdown pass to Williams to make it 13-3, Bayside drove 97 yards in 15 plays a 15 plays, ending with a Tait Moore 1-yard touchdown run to make it 13-10.
With 23 seconds left in the third quarter, (4-2, 2-2) Bayside Academy took a 17-13 lead when Dunn found Moore for a 46-yard touchdown to cap a 9-play, 85-yard drive.

Streaking: T.R. Miller has won two straight and three of its last four. Bayside (4-2, 2-2) has lost two straight after starting the season with four straight wins.
