Sylacauga motorcyclist dies from injuries in crash with truck

A Sylacauga man has died from injuries received in a crash Monday, police said.

The incident happened at the intersection of Old Birmingham Highway and James Payton Boulevard on Monday at 12:40 p.m.

According to police, Michael Lynn Rice, 49, was operating a 2021 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited (Vivid) motorcycle when it collided with a 2006 Ford F150 at the intersection.

Rice was transported to UAB via LifeSaver and died Tuesday afternoon from his injuries.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators, police said.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Michael Lynn Rice during this incredibly difficult time,” Police Chief Kelley Johnson said. “Losing a loved one in such a sudden and tragic manner is truly devastating, and our community mourns together with those affected by this incident.”
