Sylacauga High teacher accused having sex with 16-year-old student
A Sylacauga High School teacher and coach at Sylacauga High School is under arrest on allegations he had sex with a student.
Brannon Woodrow Cocherham, 40, is charged with one count of school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with student under the age of 19.
Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson announced Cocherham’s arrest on Friday. Cocherham, who was a teacher and assistant coach, was taken into custody at the school.
He was booked into the Talladega County Jail Thursday and remains held on $50,000 bond.
Kelley said Cocherham is accused of having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old female student. Additional details were not immediately available.
The charge is a Class B felony. If convicted, Cocherham faces two to 20 years in prison and would be required to register as a sex offender.
