A swimmer died and several others were airlifted to an area hospital Friday afternoon following a water rescue in Baldwin County.

Authorities received a call of distressed swimmers off Fort Morgan around 2:30 p.m. Friday, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office told WKRG.

Multiple swimmers were recovered from the water near Ponce de Leon Court, according to the sheriff’s office.

One swimmer was pronounced dead while the others were airlifted to a local hospital.
