Swaggerty, Brown, Hardy sisters elected to South Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame

South Alabama has announced its four-person Athletic Hall of Fame Class for 2024, which will be inducted in conjunction with homecoming festivities this fall.

Tapped for the Hall of Fame this year are Travis Swaggerty (baseball), Devin Brown (softball) and twin sisters Steffi and Rio Hardy (soccer). The Hall of Fame ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. on Oct. 26 at the Moulton Bell Tower at the center of campus, with recognition at that day’s Jaguars football game vs. Louisiana-Monroe at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

Swaggerty starred for the Jaguars as an outfielder from 2016-18 and was later a first-round pick in the MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Louisiana native was a Freshman All-American and a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference pick, ending his three-year career with a .319/.457/.506 batting line, with 28 home runs, 125 RBIs and 148 runs scored.

Brown was a four-time first-team All-Sun Belt pitcher from 2015-18, the first player in softball program history to accomplish the feat. The Mobile native holds the South Alabama career records for strikeouts (932), shutouts (31) and saves (8), while also posting a 71-42 record and a 1.93 ERA in 149 games.

Steffi Hardy was a three-time All-Sun Belt honoree from 2014-17 and was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. Playing alongside twin sister Rio, she helped the Jaguars to four straight Sun Belt regular-season and tournament titles and four consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament.

Rio Hardy was a three-time All-Sun Belt Conference pick, and was also chosen to the all-tournament team three times. The Workington, England, native led the Sun Belt in points (37) and goals (16) as a senior in 2017, the same year she was named Most Valuable Player of the conference tournament.
