Suspected shootout between 2 vehicles in west Birmingham leaves man with life-threatening injuries

A suspected shootout in west Birmingham Friday night left one man with serious injuries

The gunfire erupted about 9:40 p.m. The city’s West Precinct officers were then dispatched to a report of a person shot in the 2400 block of Avenue D in Ensley.

Police arrived to find a wounded man inside a vehicle. He was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Area residents reported hearing multiple shots fired.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation indicates the victim may have been traveling in a vehicle that was seen in the area with the occupants of the vehicle exchanging shots with the occupants of a separate vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
