Suspect sought in Jefferson County road-rage shooting that critically injured motorist

Authorities are searching for a suspect charged in a road-rage shooting that critically injured another man.

Javier Brykese Burney, 26, is charged with attempted murder. He remains at large.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday, May 16, were called about 2:45 p.m. to the Palmerdale Fire Department on Bradford Trafford Road a report of a person shot in a reported road rage incident.

The shooting occurred in the 7400 block of Narrows Road, but the victim was taken to the fire station for assistance.

Witnesses told authorities the man and his passenger were driving on Narrows Road when they noticed a vehicle following them closely. The man then pulled over his vehicle while the other vehicle also stopped.

The victim, who has not been identified, approached Burney and an argument ensued, sheriff’s officials said.

Burney is accused of firing a shot that struck the victim in the abdomen. The victim was taken to UAB Hospital, where he was last listed in critical condition.

Court records list a Pleasant Grove address for Burney.
