Suspect shot by police after brandishing gun at Montgomery officers: Authorities

A suspect was shot by Montgomery police officers Thursday after authorities said he brandishing a gun as the officers were trying to serve a warrant.

The extent of the injuries sustained by 57-year-old Montgomery resident Grady Owens was not immediately clear.

The incident occurred as Montgomery officers with the department’s SWAT team served a warrant in the 4100 block of Troy Highway, said the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.

Owens was struck by gunfire and taken to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment.

No officers were injured.

Further information was unavailable and the investigation was ongoing as of late Friday afternoon.

Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be sent to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for review.
