Suspect killed after north Alabama officer returns fire during domestic call

A suspect was shot dead by a north Alabama police officer who returned the suspect’s gunfire Thursday, according to the Jackson County sheriff.

The officer with the Skyline Police Department was responding to a domestic call on Jackson County Road 143 near Alabama Highway 79 when the officer was grazed by a bullet fired by the suspect, Sheriff Rocky Harnen told WHNT.

The officer then returned fire, striking the suspect, who later died.

The officer was released from the hospital Thursday night.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the incident.
