Suspect jailed on murder charge in fatal Talladega County shooting

A suspect is being held in the Talladega County jail on $250,000 bond after authorities say he shot and killed a man over the weekend.

Thomas Austin Griffith, 25, of Heflin, allegedly shot and killed Jackie Arnold Kays on Sunday, Talladega County court records showed.

Griffith was arrested Thursday and taken to the county jail on a charge of murder, jail records showed.

The 25-year-old suspect had not posted bond as of early Friday evening.

The complaint against Griffith filed in Talladega County did not go into detail about the incident, but Chief Deputy Josh Tubbs told WBRC that Griffith confronted Kays at his home in Munford.

An argument ensued, leading to the fatal shots, Tubbs said.

Efforts to reach Tubbs were not immediately successful.
