The suspect in the 2022 slaying of an 83-year-old veteran during a burglary at his home has now been indicted.

A Jefferson County grand jury Oct. 19 issued an indictment for 23-year-old Jarvas Tremaine Henderson. The indictment was made public Monday afternoon.

Henderson is charged with capital murder in the May 16, 2022, slaying of Daniel Richard Garrick.

In August, a different grand jury indicted Henderson on a murder charge in the Father’s Day 2022 shooting death of Justin Jai Brown.

Henderson has been held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail since July 2022.

Garrick was found dead that Monday at his home in the 600 block of Sheridan Road just after 9 a.m.

A woman who identified herself as the mother of the Garrick daughter said she hadn’t heard from him all weekend, so she went to the home to check on him. That’s when she found the victim dead and called 911.

Officers made entry and found Garrick dead. He was pronounced dead 9:41 a.m. from an undisclosed head injury.

One month after Garrick was killed, police say Henderson was involved in Brown’s homicide.

The city’s West Precinct officers responded just before 2 p.m. that Sunday, June 19, 2022, which was Father’s Day, to a report of a person shot in the 5900 block of Warner Street. That area is near Lipscomb.

Brown was found shot multiple times on the sidewalk and pronounced dead a short time later.

After Henderson was arrested, two other people also were charged: Ranisha Nicole Wright, 20, and Joshua Holmes, 23. Wright and Holmes were also charged with kidnapping/interference of custody after two children were taken from the scene at the time of the killing.

Henderson is set to be arraigned in December in Brown’s slaying. A court date has not yet been set for the capital murder charge.
