Suspect in Mobile murder case dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound

A 22-year-old Mobile man shot and killed himself Thursday, a day after he was to have been arraigned on a murder charge in Mobile County Circuit Court.

Court records show prosecutors filed a motion Friday to abate the proceedings against Daniel Deshawn Holloway Jr.

The same motion indicates Holloway died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound sometime between midnight and the time of abatement filing at 9:44 a.m. Friday.

Information on where Holloway died and how his body was found was not immediately available.

Holloway was facing a charge of intentional murder in the death of 20-year-old ZyCorrean Harris, who was found dead in the parking lot of Sally’s Beauty Supply in Semmes last February.

Mobile County deputies and Semmes police responded to that location shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 3. Officers found Harris with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said the two men had an ongoing dispute over a woman, with witnesses telling investigators they had overheard the two men arguing at the woman’s place of employment.

Holloway reportedly brandished a 9mm handgun and fired the fatal shot. Harris fled to the parking lot, where he collapsed. Holloway and his girlfriend remained at the scene and deputies took Holloway into custody.

Holloway was released on bond, but in December that bond was revoked after he was charged with domestic violence and burglary. The mother of his child told Mobile police Holloway had forced his way into her residence and struck her in the face, according to the court filing to revoke bond.

The judge ordered the bond revoked and Holloway imprisoned, but court and jail records suggest Holloway was never taken back into custody prior to his death Friday.
