Suspect in Easter homicide in Daphne captured by feds, held on $500K bond

The suspect in a shooting that killed a man and injured a second victim early Easter morning in Daphne has been captured by federal agents and is being held on $500,000 bond.

Joseph Kaynen Gurley, 23, of Mobile, allegedly shot and killed J. Matthews Bonnell and injured an apartment tenant at the 10X Audubon Park development in Daphne, police told WKRG.

Gurley’s case was not in state court records as of Wednesday, but Baldwin County jail records showed he was locked up Tuesday night and remains in the jail on $350,000 bond on a murder charge and $150,000 on a charge of attempted murder.

Gurley was captured Tuesday by U.S. Marshals in Washington County, WKRG reported.

Bonnell was a friend of the tenant and arrived with Gurley and a woman shortly before the gunshots erupted around 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

The group planned to meet at the apartment when an argument ensued.
