Suspect held in killing of 29-year-old man in parking lot of south Birmingham apartment building

A suspect is being held in connection with a deadly shooting in the parking lot of a south Birmingham apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

Police on Sunday identified the victim as Thomas Bostany. He was 29 and lived in Birmingham.

The city’s South Precinct officers responded at 4:12 p.m. to a report of a person down in the 1000 block of Penthouse Drive, which is Mountainside Apartments.

When officers got to the location, they found Bostany unresponsive inside a vehicle. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.

Investigators determined someone fired shots into the victim’s vehicle, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

A suspect was taken into custody at the apartment complex. He was taken to police headquarters for question.

That 26-year-old suspect was booked into the Birmingham City Jail At 11:15 p.m. Saturday. He is being held on suspicion of capital murder for shooting into an occupied vehicle.

His name is being withheld pending formal charges.

A motive has not yet been determined.
