A suspect was arrested on murder charges Monday in the killing of a Birmingham mother more than three weeks ago, police said.

Raquan Wilson, 26, of Birmingham, turned himself in to the Jefferson County Jail on Monday after being arrested in connection with the slaying of 33-year-old Jasmine Price. He is being held without bond.

Price, a wife and mother of a 4-year-old girl, was killed after at least 40 rounds were fired Jan. 13 in the 800 block of First Street West, in Birmingham’s College Hill neighborhood.

Moments later, her white SUV — she was offering someone a ride, according to her family — crashed into a small apartment building and burst into flames.

Price was still inside the SUV.

Once firefighters extinguished the flames, they found Price inside the wreckage. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Price’s family remembered her as a “beautiful soul.”

“She was loving, giving, genuine, caring and just someone you can truly count on,’’ Jackson said. “No matter your situation, if Jasmine can help, you better know she was coming.”

“That’s what led to her death, helping someone,’’ her sister said. “Giving someone a ride.”

Price leaves behind her husband, Ladarius, and 4-year-old daughter Jasity. Family said she was a dedicated mother.

“She was a mother, wife, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, niece and a friend to many,’’ Jackson said.

“For her to be snatched away as an innocent victim from the joy and love of her over a senseless violent crime has torn the family to pieces,’’ Jackson said.

“She was the best little sister and big sister to her five siblings,’’ she said. “They meant the world to each other before she got her baby girl and even more so after.”
