Suspect charged with murder in fatal Ensley shooting, police say

A suspect has been arrested on murder charges in the fatal weekend shooting of a 50-year-old man in Ensley, Birmingham police said Friday.

Cedric Campbell, 42, of Center Point, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond in the slaying of Terry Hinson, announced Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Campbell was arrested Thursday at the Bama Gas station on Center Point Parkway.

Shots rang out about 3:30 p.m. Sunday on Avenue I in a neighborhood just off 18th Street in Ensley,

Police said Hinson was hanging out with several people when a dispute broke out. A suspect fired at least nine shots and fled.

Hinson collapsed on Avenue I, in front of a house and some vehicles. A citizen was rendering aid to him when police arrived, but Hinson was pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities said it’s possible the dispute stemmed from a dice game.
