Suspect charged with capital murder in weekend killing at Birmingham apartment complex
A suspect has been charged in the weekend shooting death of a man in the parking lot of a south Birmingham apartment complex.
Samuel Edward Wiggins IV, 26, is charged with capital murder in the Saturday slaying of 29-year-old Thomas Bostany.
The city’s South Precinct officers responded at 4:12 p.m. Saturday to a report of a person down in the 1000 block of Penthouse Drive, which is Mountainside Apartments.
When officers got to the location, they found Bostany unresponsive inside a vehicle. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.
Wiggins was taken into custody at the apartment complex.
He was taken to police headquarters for questioning and then booked into the Birmingham City Jail at 11:15 p.m. Saturday.
Detectives obtained warrants against him on Monday. The charge is capital murder because the victim was in a vehicle when he was shot.
A motive has not yet been released.
Wiggins will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail where he will be held without bond.
