Suspect charged with capital murder in killing of man who was dropped off at Birmingham hospital
A suspect is behind bars in the weekend shooting death of a man who was dropped off at Princeton Baptist Medical Center.
Kelvin Andra Edwards Jr., 30, is charged with capital murder in the killing of 41-year-old Lamar King.
West Precinct officers were dispatched at 2:20 a.m. Saturday to Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Hospital staff told police someone dropped off the victim.
King was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators did not initially know where the shooting happened, but now believe King was inside a vehicle when he was shot in the 1900 Block of 13th Way S.W., said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Detectives have not determined who Edwards was targeting, Fitzgerald said.
Edwards was taken into custody Thursday by the police department’s Crime Reduction Team. He was arrested at a home in east Birmingham.
The suspect was booked into the Jefferson County Jail about 9 p.m. and remains held without bond.
