Suspect charged with capital murder in fatal weekend shooting of couple at Birmingham home
A 22-year-old Birmingham man has been charged in the weekend shooting death of a couple inside a southwest Birmingham home.
Charles Dunnigan III is charged with capital murder in the Sunday slayings of Damon Thomas, 28, and Jacquic Little, 24.
The deadly shooting happened on Thomas’s birthday.
Birmingham police said the warrants were issued by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Monday.
On Tuesday, Dunnigan was taken into custody in York by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the 17th Judicial Task Force.
Just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the city’s gunfire detection system – Shot Spotter – alerted police to shots fired in the 1800 block of Fulton Avenue S.W.
While they were en route, West Precinct officers were notified that a man was shot, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
When they arrived at the home, police found Little and Thomas wounded inside. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.
Thomas and Little were celebrating Thomas’s birthday. Just hours before the shooting that killed them both, Little posted on Facebook wishing him a happy birthday.
“I can’t thank God enough for blessing you for another year,’’ she wrote. “My kin, I pray for eternity. I love you so much baby.”
Authorities have not released a motive in the slaying. The charge is capital because two people were killed.
Dunnigan was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 1:10 p.m. today. He is being held without bond.
