Suspect charged with capital murder in death of Birmingham man who was gunned down on motorcycle

A suspect has been charged in last week’s killing of a man gunned down in Birmingham while he was riding a motorcycle.

Keena Deon Creer, a 39-year-old Alabaster man, is charged with capital murder in the June 5 slaying of 39-year-old Obray Carter, Birmingham police announced.

Creer was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday and remains held without bond.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said Creer was taken into custody 2500 block of Acton Road Wednesday by the Crime Reduction Team.

The shooting happened about 12:30 p.m. one week ago today in the area of First Avenue South and Center Street.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said officers arrived at the scene to find Carter unresponsive and slumped over on a motorcycle.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the man either stopped in the area, or was riding his motorcycle, when the fatal shots were fired.

Police said they believe Carter was targeted. A motive has not been disclosed.
