Suspect charged in weekend Birmingham shooting that seriously injured 56-year-old man

A suspect has been charged in a weekend shooting in Birmingham that injured a 56-year-old man.

Michael Deonta Milton, 23, is charged with attempted murder, police officials announced Tuesday.

The shooting happened about 3 p.m. Sunday at 10th Street West and Sixth Avenue West.

Sgt.LaQuitta Wade said the victim and the suspect got into a verbal altercation that led to Milton firing shots at the man.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Milton, Wade said, left the scene before police arrived.

West Precinct officers received a detailed description of the suspect and began searching the area. Milton was quickly taken into custody.

Milton was booked into the Jefferson County Jail shortly before noon Tuesday. His bond is set at $60,000.
