Suspect charged in Mother’s Day shooting that wounded Birmingham father, young son

A suspect has been charged with multiple crimes a Mother’s Day shooting in Birmingham that injured a father and son.

Kamryn Deon Cade, 22, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts discharging a firearm one count of first-degree robbery, Birmingham police announced Wednesday.

Cade was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Monday and remains held without bond.

Both victims have since been released from the hospital.

The shooting that day was one of three that injured children.

West Precinct officers were dispatched at 1:58 p.m. that Sunday to a Shot Spotter call in the 1500 block of Cullman Avenue. While en route, they were told someone had been shot.

They arrived to find the adult victim wounded. He was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Minutes later — at 2:08 p.m. — a second victim showed up at Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Station 16 on Avenue I in Ensley.

That victim was the man’s 11-year-old son, who also sustained serious injuries. He was tor 12-years-old — also sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Childrens of Alabama.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said at least 25 shots were fired.

The victims were in a vehicle or had just arrived in a vehicle the suspect opened fire.

Cade, court documents state, was trying to rob the victim of an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim was targeted for the robbery.

Fitzgerald said leads developed by detectives and tips from the community led to the warrants against Cade.
