Suspect at large following I-65 police chase from Shelby County to Vestavia Hills

A search is underway for a man who led Shelby County sheriff’s deputies on a chase on Interstate 65 Monday afternoon.

The pursuit began at 3:30 p.m. when deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on I-65 in the area of Calera and Alabaster.

Authorities believe the driver had active felony with warrants with the sheriff’s office.

Multiple agencies joined in as the chase continued northbound on the interstate, ending on Montgomery Highway in Vestavia Hills. Those agencies included the Alabaster Police Department, the Vestavia Hills Police, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Sheriff’s officials said drug-related evidence was found in the vehicle, which has been impounded.

The is a white male, about 5-feet, 9-inches weighing 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red plaid shirt.

Deputies and other law enforcement officers have been canvassing the area for the suspect; however, the suspect is still at large.

Authorities said they do not believe there is any threat to the public, but they encourage anyone in the area to use caution and pay attention to surroundings.
