Suspect arrested in connection with Alabama service station shooting

Saleh Mohammed Munassar of Owens Crossroads was taken into custody following a shooting Wednesday morning.

At 9:46 a.m. on Mar. 12, the Albertville Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported shooting at the Exxon Station, located at 5743 US Hwy 431, according to a recent release.

Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the lower body.

The victim, 28-year-old Khirellah Musa Gelan of Decatur, was transported by ambulance to Marshall Medical Center South.

He was later transferred to Huntsville Hospital but has since been released, the release says.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that the shooting occurred during an altercation between two adult male family members, police said.

The two males involved were also both affiliated with the service station where the shooting occurred, according to police.

Munassar,29, was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently booked for attempted murder, the release says.

He is currently being held at the Albertville City Jail while charges are being formalized.

Within the next 48 hours, an initial appearance will be conducted, and Munassar will be transported to the Marshall County Jail, according to the release.

Albertville Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
