Suspect arrest in Easter shooting of 3 family members in Tarrant

A suspect who was out on bond for attempted murder has been charged with three more counts of attempted murder after Tarrant police arrested him Thursday afternoon in the Easter Sunday shootings of his mother, sister and grandmother.

Rodterrius Dewayne Swanson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on three counts of attempted murder, certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol and shooting into an occupied dwelling in connection with Sunday’s shooting, Tarrant police said. His bond was set at $225,000.

Swanson was out on bond following a Jan. 30 arrest on charges of attempted murder and second-degree domestic violence when he allegedly shot his three family members Sunday, police said.

Tarrant police officers responded about 7 p.m. to a home in the 1800 block of Enfield Street.

Chief Wendell Major said when officers arrived, they received information that a woman had been shot by her brother. She was taken by private vehicle to UAB Hospital with serious injuries.

Swanson fled the scene before authorities arrived, according to police.

Major said two additional victims were found wounded. Those victims are the mother and the grandmother of the brother and sister.

The female sibling, the chief said, sustained the most severe injuries – three gunshot wounds to her chest and stomach. She is expected to recover.

The woman’s mother and grandmother were treated at UAB as well, and also are expected to recover.

Major said there were at least 10 adults and several children at the home when the shooting took place. Detectives are still in the process of interviewing all of the witnesses.

The gun used in the shooting has been recovered.

Anyone with additional information on the shooting was asked to call Sgt. Det. Morrow at 205-849-2811.
