Surging Alabama rock band to be featured on ‘The Tonight Show’

They’re opening for the Rolling Stones at the end of the month and now they’re about to make a high-profile late-night TV appearance as musical guests for Jimmy Fallon.

“Guess where we’ll be Thursday night?” The Red Clay Strays posted on Monday. The country-tinged roots-rock band from Mobile was already on track to have a banner month, given that it will open for The Rolling Stones at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on May 30.

This week’s news is that the Strays will be featured on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on May 23. According to information posted by NBC, Thursday’s episode also will feature actor Chris Pratt and TV commentator/podcast personalities Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson.

These appearances will raise the band’s profile at a time when other major developments are coming to fruition. The group recently announced that it has signed a deal with RCA Records; it has a sold-out tripleheader coming up this fall at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium; and it has a new album in the can that was developed with star producer Dave Cobb.

The band also has announced that on Wednesday, May 22, it will release “Wanna Be Loved,” the first single off the new album. According to a post on X/Twitter, the song “will debut across all platforms along with its very own music video.”

Speaking before a recent performance in Fairhope, lead singer Brandon Coleman said the group was aiming to release that album by late summer or early fall. No release date has been announced.
