In Alabama, the polls open today at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

There are also primaries for county offices depending on where in Alabama you reside. Sample ballots can be found here for your country.

Voters do not register for political parties in Alabama, meaning voters can choose whether they want to cast ballots in either the Republican or Democratic primary.

Here is what you need to know before heading to your polling place.

In the state’s presidential primary, with 52 delegates at stake on the Democratic side, voters can choose between President Joe Biden, Dean Phillips, and uncommitted.

On the Alabama Republican ballot for president are former president Donald Trump, former South Carolina governor and ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, David Stuckenberg, uncommitted, Ryan Binkley, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and Vivek Ramaswamy. Here is how the party’s 50 delegates are selected.

Among Alabama’s biggest state races are the crowded field running in the state’s newly redrawn Second Congressional District and the election for Alabama Supreme Court chief justice.

In a redrawn District 1, incumbent Rep. Jerry Carl, R-Mobile, and Rep. Barry Moore, the Republican incumbent for District 2, against one another. The winner of the GOP primary will likely defeat the lone Democrat in the race, Tom Holmes, in the November general election.

Alabamians will also pick party nominees for Public Service Commission president and four state Board of Education seats. The state BOE races in Districts 3 and 7 are among the most noteworthy.

Voters will also consider proposed Statewide Amendment Number 1. If approved, that would remove one step from the Legislature’s process for passing local bills, which affect only one county or one city.

Here is a look at some of the local races in north, central and south Alabama.
