Super Bowl overtime coin up for auction: Here’s the minimum it will cost

NFL fans hoping to score a piece of Super Bowl history are in luck. The Super Bowl LVIII game coin— the coin flipped before overtime to determine whether the San Francisco 49ers or the Kansas City Chiefs received the ball first— is up for auction.

The coin is up for sale on the NFL auction website, and as of Feb. 26, the asking price is over $20,000. The bidding will close on Feb. 28. According to the website, proceeds from the auction will go to benefit Luna Strong’s Maui relief efforts.

The San Francisco 49ers won the toss and chose to receive. That decision, reports Bleacher Report, was controversial since the new overtime rules in the playoffs allow both teams to receive the ball even if the first team scores a touchdown.

The mint condition coin has two sides. One side contains both teams’ logos, and the other side contains the Super Bowl LVIII logo with Roger Goodell’s name etched into it, reports NJ.com.
