Super Bowl: Donald Trump’s national anthem salute draws reaction, goes viral
It didn’t take long for President Donald Trump to draw a reaction from the crowd in the Superdome – or online – ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jon Batiste sang the national anthem. The multi-Grammy winner opened the game with a lively rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.”
During the performance, the camera showed players from each team, including Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs. However, no reaction was as loud as the reaction for Trump, who saluted from a box suite.
Trump thinks Kansas City will win, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes the difference-maker. Trump says in a pregame interview with Fox News Channel’s Brett Baier that “I guess you have to say that when a quarterback wins as much as he’s won, I have to go with Kansas City.”
Trump spent a few minutes on the field before he headed to his suite to watch the game with lawmakers and family members.
After entering through a tunnel near the Chiefs’ end of the field, he greeted first responders and victims of the New Year’s Day attack in the French Quarter.
According to The Associated Press, he was greeted with a mix of cheers and boos from fans.
Check out some of the reaction.
