Super Bowl 58 streaker explains why he did it: ‘I was trying to run as I fast I can’

One of the men who ran onto the field Sunday during Super Bowl 58 explained why he did.

Alex Gonzalez told TMZ the plan was to place a bet on whether a streaker would take the field during the Kansas City Chiefs-San Francisco 49ers game, then collect on his winnings.

He said he was at a UFC event Saturday, and he told people like Dr. Phil and the Nelk Boys that he was going to streak and encouraged them to place bets.

The problem, Gonzalez said, was the prop bet was not available to place. Still, Gonzalez said, at that point, he was already invested in doing it.

He bought two tickets the day before the game for $42,000. Hours before the game, he said he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods for a pair of cleats for his run.

“They were just doing their job,” Gonzalez told TMZ about security taking him down. “I was trying to run as fast as I can, but there’s more of them than there is of me. They caught up to me pretty quick.

“As soon as I was cornered, I just threw myself to the floor, put my hands behind my back.”

He said he was taken to a holding cell where he remained for 15-20 minutes before being taken to jail. he said he was charged with misdemeanor trespassing. He posted bail ($1,000 or $2,000, he said) on Monday morning.
