Sun Belt football championship game sets date, kickoff time for 2025

The Sun Belt football championship game is moving to Friday night for 2025, the league office announced Thursday.

The 2025 Sun Belt championship game is set for Friday, Dec. 5, with television coverage on ESPN. Kickoff time is set for 6 p.m. Central at a to-be-determined home site of either the East or West Division winner.

Previously, the Sun Belt championship game had taken place on Saturday, the same date as the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Big 12. Several other Group of 5 conferences — including the American, Conference USA and Mountain West — have typically held their title games on Friday.

“We are excited to kick off conference championship weekend with the Sun Belt Football Championship Game on Friday, Dec. 5,” said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill. “With primetime billing on ESPN, we look forward to showcasing our East and West Division champions, as they vie for a conference title and a potential berth into the College Football Playoff.”

Marshall won the 2024 Sun Belt championship with a 31-3 victory over Louisiana. The division winner with the best overall conference record hosts the title game.
