Summerdale police chief on leave amidst criminal investigation

Summerdale police chief Kevin Brock is on paid administrative leave as the state attorney general’s office investigates possible criminal conduct, Mayor David Wilson said Monday, according to WPMI.

Brock was placed on leave last Wednesday after town officials learned of the investigation. The investigation stems from activity in Brock’s personal life, with no connection to his role as chief of police, according to the report.

The Summerdale Town Council is expected to discuss the situation at its next meeting on July 17. In the interim, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office will assist Summerdale in overseeing its police force.

Brock has been the Summerdale police chief since 2018, according to the Town website.

This isn’t the first time a controversy has surrounded the Summerdale police chief. In 2011, the town council fired Chief Dwain Reibeling and an underling, citing neglect of duty and insubordination, as well as incompetence in dismissing Reibling.

Summerdale is a rural town in south central Baldwin County. The 2020 census reported a population of 1,468. Wilson said the department police department currently has seven officers, according to the report.
