Summer preview continues Wednesday in Alabama
Summer-like temperatures will again be possible across Alabama on Wednesday — but it could be the last really warm day this week for part of the state.
The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures to climb into the mid- to upper 80s today across most of the state, which could put some high temperature records in jeopardy again.
Alabama had several cities reach record territory on Tuesday:
* Montgomery’s high of 89 degrees on Tuesday broke the record of 88 degrees set in 1934.
* Tuscaloosa had a high of 87 degrees, breaking the record of 86 set in 1954.
* Muscle Shoals hit 89 degrees on Tuesday, tying the record last reached in 1934.
More of the same kind of temperatures will be possible today ahead of a cold front, which is expected to bring rain and storms to Alabama starting later tonight.
A few of those storms could be on the strong side for parts of north Alabama.
Here are some of the standing record temperatures for April 5:
* Birmingham: 88 degrees (2010)
* Huntsville: 89 degrees (1967)
* Mobile: 86 degrees (2017)
* Montgomery: 91 degrees (1988)
* Muscle Shoals: 88 degrees (1988)
* Tuscaloosa: 89 degrees (1999)
Cooler weather is expected to arrive on Thursday for the northern part of the state — areas north of the front.
Highs on Thursday will range from the 60s in north Alabama to the 80s for places south of the front in southern Alabama.
More of the state — except for the southeast — will return to slightly cooler temperatures on Friday:
And even though it’ll cool off some over the weekend, warmer weather looks to be here to stay:
