Sugar Bowl postponed to Thursday after attack on French Quarter pedestrians, report says

Wednesday night’s Sugar Bowl College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between Georgia and Notre Dame has been postponed to Wednesday after an attack on pedestrians in the French Quarter overnight left 10 dead and dozens injured, according to a report by New Orleans television station WDSU.

The game was originally scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at Caesar’s Superdome, located less than a mile from the site of Wednesday morning’s attack. According to authorities, a man drove a pickup truck into an area popular with tourists at Bourbon Street and Canal Street at around 3:15 a.m. and struck several pedestrians.

The suspect — identified by the FBI as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas — then exchanged fire with police and was ultimately killed. Ten pedestrians were killed and 33 injured.

City officials are expected to address the game’s status at a 1 p.m. press conference.
