Subaru windshield update: Deadline to file for settlement is near

Subaru drivers could be in line for reimbursement or an extended warranty as part of a settlement related to cracked windshields.

A New Jersey judge has granted approval to a class action settlement covering more than 1 million Subaru owners and lessees related to claims windshields on some models would crack during normal use, Topclassactions.com reported.

The settlement covers some 1.4 million Subaru owners and includes:

  • 2019-2022 Ascent
  • 2019-2022 Forester
  • 2020-2022 Legacy
  • 2020-2022 Outback

Under the terms of the settlement, Subaru is extending its existing warranty to cover qualifying windshield cracks for up to eight years or 100,000 miles, allowing those owners to receive a one-time replacement with an updated version of the windshield.

“To qualify for the Extended Warranty, you must experience a Qualifying Windshield Crack and present your Settlement Class Vehicle to an Authorized Subaru Retailer for Extended Warranty service during the period. If you have repairs performed on your vehicle pursuant to the Extended Warranty, you cannot later opt out of or exclude yourself from the Settlement Class,” the settlement website noted.

Also, cash reimbursement is available for those who paid out of pocket for a windshield replacement as long as it was caused by windshield stress and not other damage. The deadline for submitting evidence of damage is today (Jan. 31). You can see more here.

The court has a final hearing on the settlement on April 25.
