Student flown to hospital after being stabbed by classmate at Alabama high school

A student was flown to hospital after they were stabbed Thursday by a classmate at a southwest Alabama high school.

The student was stabbed at Jackson High School in Clarke County, WKRG reported.

The student suspected of stabbing the classmate is in custody, according to the station.

The injured student was flown to University Hospital in Mobile.

Clarke County Schools did not mention a stabbing in a Facebook post, instead referring to “an isolated violent incident.” The district said counseling and support services are available to anyone who needs them.

“We regret to inform you of an isolated violent incident that occurred earlier today at Jackson High School involving two students. We understand the concern and alarm this may cause, but we want to assure you that the threat has been swiftly removed and the situation is under control,” the district announced early Thursday afternoon.

“At this moment, the details surrounding the incident are still unfolding. As expected, we are fully cooperating with law enforcement and school officials as they conduct their thorough investigation into this matter,” the statement went on to say.
